TODOS CUBANOS, TODOS HERMANOS Y AHORA LA LIBERTAD
- RESOLUTION on Cuba
The political movements of Cuba affiliated in the CDI, regarding the situation of violence suffered by the people and the civil society of Cuba:
1. Calls once again on the Cuban government to ratify without reservations and without delay, the International Pact on Political and Civil Rights and the International Pact on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, both of which were signed by the Cuban government at the United Nations in New York in February 2008.
2. Expresses its support to and solidarity with the Cuban Conference of Catholic Bishops, which in its recent Pastoral Letter “Hope Does Not Disappoint” asks the Cuban government for a political opening.
3. Agrees to support free and pluralistic elections be held in Cuba, in a climate of respect and dialogue between all the sectors of the Cuban nation, as has called for by more than 25,000 citizens legally participating in the referendum on the Varela project.
4. Agrees to support the establishment of an international, impartial and competent commission to thoroughly investigate the deaths of Oswaldo Paya and Harold Cepero in circumstances that remain unclear.
5. Calls to stop all violence against its activists and leaders of Christian Liberation Movement and all opposition organizations on the island. We reiterate our commitment and will undertake every effort to support the Cuban people in its struggle for freedom, democracy and respect for human rights.
6. Affirms its support to the initiatives that within the Cuban Island and within the exile as well as by others who have similarly chosen a non-violent path to bring about the rule of law, peace and social justice for all Cubans.
